It's been a hot minute since I've written an overly wrong and critical review of a game on here, so I'm gonna give a good long rant about this game.

Overall, I would say this is a very fun little experience! Would definitely recommend to others to give it a try.

The gimmick of having to constantly keep a slowly dwindling resource in check is surprisingly not a gimmick I've seen in a lot of platformers, which is kinda a surprise given how much you could do with that concept.. And in this game I would say it's both well excecuted and matches the games overall themes very well!

The movement is very floaty for no real reason, but i do think that works to the games advantage, because it still plays smooth. Once you get the hang of it blazing through the stages becomes incredibly satisfying, which is the highest praise i can give a platformer!

As for the boss, I will say I have a few grievences here and there. It doesn't ruin the game by any means, but I still have some things to say.
I thought that the fireballs were waaaay to tightly packed to consistantly avoid. Given your lack of movement options avoiding the attacks made the fight kind of a chore...
That is, until I found out that you could safely be ON TOP OF THE BOSS without any penalty, which is kinda weird? Like, in other games getting that close to a boss would result in damage.
And DON'T GET ME WRONG, I'm GLAD it doesn't, but when I found that out, it sort of trivialized the boss for me. Definitely needs a bit more work.

In summary, I think there is potential here. But in order for that potential to be realized, I'd like to see two things: One, a more expansive and fluid moveset. A platform fighter kind of moveset for a game like this would work WONDERS in making this game a HELL of a lot smoother. And two, more open-ended and complex stages. Those two things would make this a damn JUICY experience. It would be one of those games that you could play FOREVER, because it just FEELS so good! With those elements I would definetly readily pay money for this game. I'd love to see a full retail release some day.

Thanks for your in depth review and feedback! I really appreciate it. I will be tuning up this game engine for a couple more side scroller games with great feedback like this and eventually do a sequel to this game.

THIS
GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAME

I spent three hours trying to see if I could beat the game without any timers.

Turns out, it’s possible.

It’s an incredibly tight squeeze, but it’s possible.

Congrats!

I dont know how someone could make tetris feel new and exciting, but you have delivered man

funnily enough this reminds me of jelly mario bros lmao

IDK how this man keeps pumping out banger after banger, but im all for it!
You should absolutely consider becoming a mainstream indie dev!

Speaking as someone who has played a lot of crappy resturaunt simulator flash games growing up, i can confidently say that this game is several steps above those kinds of games!
while most games of this manner are generally really easy, for this game I can say that I was genuinely challenged while playing while still having a lot of fun!
I also really love the asthetic of the game. I was always into voodoo and magic and witch shit and seeing that asthetic applied to this game tickles my pickle.
And the characters, man, I LOOOOOVE the characters. Aka is one of the most eccentric characters ive ever seen on a game from this site, and I ADORE her.
In all honesty I think Aka and Sly are kind of the two sides to my own personality. One is crazy and eccentric, the other is chill and keeps his cool. They are literally me fr XD
The only thing I can really complain about is... Well, i want more! There are a lot of games on NG I wanna see made into full games to reach their potential, and this is one of those games!
i would absolutely pay money for a full version of this game.

Usually i don't really like car games that much, but this one is really fun, because it doesn't really FEEL like a car game, if you know what I mean.
The gameplay is fast enough to keep you constantly on the edge of your seat, but not TOO hard to the point where it isn't FUN. And thats something not a lot of speed games (aside from the big ones like Sonic) manage to nail perfectly, and yet somehow you did it flawlessly!
The levels themselves also offer a good amount of variety all throughout, and I never got bored!
I really love this game and would really like to see more content get added to it! Full game maybe?... :D
also i beat lilypads on my third try, it aint hard, y'all just have what the kids call a "skill issue" B)

Top five in the world on / triangle \, baby!! (can't wait for that statement to age real quick)
Anyway, this game is amazing! It's incredibly simplistic only having to use one button, and yet somehow that lack of control makes it much more challenging! I usually have trouble finding hard games that are genuinely fun to play, but this is definitely one of them! It's a really fun concept as well, and there's enough diversity among the bosses :that the whole game stays fun all throughout!! I would recommend this game to anyone!!
Can't wait to see the full release!!

edit: only just now realized that you can change your loadout. I've been playing the whole demo using the default loadout lol

OK this game is just incredible! It's ridiculously simple and yet I'm hopelessly addicted to it trying to go for highscores! This game honestly has a lot of potential in it! Although, if I'm gonna be entirely honest, it really feels like it's just a demo rather than a complete game. Hopefully this game get revisited and expanded in the future! I would definetly pay money for the full version if that happens.

jefvel responds:

Thanks! Yeah, it's very barebones at the moment. I made it mostly as an experiment with rhytm games, and for pixel day. Maybe I'll add more stuff to it later on :)

Hot damn this is an incredible game! Despite the cute graphic and simplistic gameplay, it captures the "horror" tone wonderfully! There are a few holes in the plot, sure, but that didn't stop me from having fun! Overall an awesome experience that left me wanting more! I'd really want to see a full game come out of this! (On a completely unrelated note, can I point out that the fig tree looks like a cookie? If you look at the litte black dots like chocolate chips, it looks a LOT like a cookie. Aaaaaaaaand now you can't unsee it. Lmao XD)
